It might depend on what kind of update it is. Nor do I know if it might create any problems - you should probably check Apple's support KB for that. I don't know if it will work, because I don't know what the problem is. Will that work or will that cause problems so I should not do that? The idea is to work in small steps and add minimum complications at each step, in order to isolate the problem.Ĭan i re-install the update from that to see if it fixes the problem? If it works, then you can go on and update, then test again. So just do a brand new install and test the result. Make sure you have no trace left of an OS on the target drive, and start with disc 1.Ĭan I then run an update on the external Hard drive so everything is the same when I try a reboot from that drive?

So do I have to Install Mac OSX 10.4.5 on an external from Install disc 1 or 2?Īs I said, pristine. Many thanks and any advice/ help is appreciated. So, has anyone suffered the same problem and does anyone know how to fix it. Also I have run Apple Hardware test and rebooted in various modes all without any change. I took the machine to a local Apple Store and the ran a diagnostic test, and all parts were ticked as working.

If I change the desktop dispaly to solid colour or an image with lots of colour it displays without any problems (the pattern only shows up if there are any black areas in the image) Then when I play the same movie file on another MacBook Pro it plays as a black solid movie, not patterned. I know that it is a problem displaying Black because I have tested a black solid movie file (just a black image playing for 4 seconds) playing as a Quicktime movie on the desktop, and it shows the same red pattern when playing. I have a MBPro (2006) OSX 10.4.11 and recently the screen has gone red where Black should be (please see attached images) This is my first post here on the forums and I would like to ask a question about my MacBook Pro I can't find an answer to.
